MANILA - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Tuesday said it will give special permits to about 12,500 buses that will ferry an estimated one million Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) members to Bulacan this Sunday.

"As acknowledgement and respect on its contribution to its members and the country, the LTFRB, together with all other government agencies, has pledged full support to ensure the success of the celebration," LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez said.

The INC is set to celebrate its centennial anniversary this July 27, Sunday.

The LTFRB estimates that about one million INC members will converge in Ciudad de Victoria in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Ginez said the LTFRB is now accepting applications for special bus permits in its central and regional offices. The special permits will be valid from July 25 to August 2.

The LTFRB said the special permits will be issued for the sole purpose of transporting INC members from their point of origin to their destination and back.

Ginez also warned bus operators against raising bus fares.

"We will not tolerate any kind of increase more than the rates these operators charged their other clients. Kami ho ay nananawagan sa mga bus operators na makipagtulungan sa INC at kung maari ay bigyan sila ng karampatang diskwento in the spirit of brotherhood and unity," he said.
