11 detainees bolt Mandaluyong jail
MANILA – Eleven detainees escaped from the Mandaluyong City Jail before dawn on Monday but one of them has been recaptured, police said.
Senior Superintendent Tyrone Masigon, Mandaluyong City Police chief, said 10 detainees remain at large after one of them, identified as Gabby Capistrano, was recaptured in Welfareville Compound.
Masigon said the escape of the inmates occurred between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.
He said the inmates - who are facing charges for crimes such as theft, robbery, and drug-related offenses - escaped by sawing off the cell's iron bars.
Five jail guards have been relieved from their posts due to the incident. A manhunt operation is now ongoing to recapture the remaining 10 inmates.
Police said inmate Djordan Villadolid led the escape, and some of the inmates were just reportedly convinced to bolt the jail as well. – report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
