MANILA – PO3 Richard Ebrada of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Intelligence Group was formally charged Saturday morning by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after pretending to be a Commission on Human Rights (CHR) lawyer at the wake of Ozamis gang leader Ricky Cadavero.
Ebrada reportedly tried approaching the relatives of Cadavero to ask for their contact numbers.
Ebrada refused to comment on the accusation.
According to the NBI, they already received a call from the direct supervisor of Ebrada in the intel group, confirming that they did send someone to the wake of the Ozamis gang leader.
"Gusto raw nila makakuha ng impormasyon doon sa pamilya ni Cadavero, in particular ‘yung sister at sa mother,” said Atty. Joel Tovera, executive officer of the NBI’s Death Investigation Division.
The PNP Internal Affairs, the NBI and the CHR are conducting separate investigations on the incident, but the intel group did not clarify why they sent Ebrada and why he had to pose as a lawyer.
“Dapat nakipag-coordinate na lang siya at in-introduce niya ang sarili niya as a member of the intelligence group,” said Tovera.
Aside from facing administrative cases, Ebrada is also charged with usurpation of authority.
