MANILA -- Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chairperson Etta Rosales on Saturday questioned why an intelligence officer of the Philippine National Police (PNP) had to get the phone number of the sister of slain Ozamis robbery gang leader Ricky Cadavero.
"Why does he want her telephone number? There is no basis, there is no relevance in terms of the kind of investigation that should be made," Rosales told ANC.
The police officer was arrested Friday evening after pretending to be a member of the CHR during the wake of Cadavero.
The cop, who later identified himself as PO3 Richard Ecleo Ebrada, said he was mandated by General Abelardo Villacorta to get the contact information of Cadavero's sister.
Cadavero's sister Rosalinda, however, said she felt confused that a supposed CHR member wanted to talk to her when in fact, the officer-in-charge of the CHR and officers of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were already present at the funeral hours ago.
Rosales said she is already in touch with the PNP, seeking an explanation on the incident.
She said the CHR also supports the filing of formal charges against the police officer before the NBI.
