MANILA - Vice Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Wednesday urged Manila residents to stay away from Roxas Boulevard and Intramuros after strong winds brought by Typhoon Glenda toppled trees and scattered debris in those areas.
"Wag na po kayong dadaan sa Roxas Boulevard at sa Intramuros. Bumagsak na po puno sa Department of Public Works and Highways main office and the Red Cross area. Tatanggalan namin mga punong malaki," he said in an ABS-CBN interview.
Other areas affected by debris are:
Northbound lane of Kalaw
Aurora Boulevard in front of Chinese General Hospital
Mercury Drug on Quezon Boulevard
The vice-mayor said many areas of Manila remain passable. However, he urged residents to stay indoors because the winds are too dangerous.
"Nakakatakot po ang lakas ng hangin," he said.
At least 500 families in danger zones in Manila have been evacuated.
Typhoon Glenda was gusting up to 185 kph (115 mph) on Wednesday with sustained winds of 150 kph (93 mph) near its center.
