MANILA – Camarines Sur police have rescued a baby who was abducted in Mandaluyong by a woman who offered to make the baby a commercial model for a milk brand.
Senior Superintendent Florendo Quibuyen, chief of Mandaluyong Police, said the 3-month-old baby girl was found at a house in Barangay Mangogon, Lagonoy town. The house is owned by the live-in partner of the suspect, identified as Lovelyn Casipe.
The baby was taken from her mother, "Anne," last Saturday by Casipe, who offered to make the 3-month-old a commercial model for a milk brand.
On Saturday morning, Casipe asked Anne if she could bring the baby to the audition. Anne agreed to give the baby to Casipe and did not accompany the two to the audition.
Casipe promised to return the baby by 5 p.m. but never returned.
Quibuyen said a concerned citizen saw the artist sketch of Casipe's face and told the police on Monday of the whereabouts of the suspect. This led to the arrest of Casipe in her live-in partner's house and the recovery of the baby the following day.
Casipe said she took the baby so she could introduce the latter as her child to her live-in partner. Police said Casipe recently suffered a miscarriage.
Members of the "Task Force: Sagip Anghel" and the mother went to Camarines Sur upon learning of Casipe's arrest.
As of posting, Anne was already reunited with her daughter. She said she does not know what got into her mind for entrusting her daughter to a total stranger.
"Kalmado lang po ako, parang wala lang sa akin nung pag-abot sa kanya. Nung gabi na, doon lang ako nag-ano sa isipan ko [ang nagawa ko]," she told dzMM.
Quibuyen said Casipe is facing kidnapping charges and may not be allowed to post bail. – with a report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
