MANILA - A stretch of Roxas Boulevard in Manila became the staging ground for a massive earthquake drill organized by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC).

The drill is part of the National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM) which is observed every July.

The NDRRMC dubbed Wednesday's exercise as a "nationwide" event, although most of the activities were done in Manila

Different scenarios were played out by rescue units and government employees in case a magnitude 7.2 earthquake hits Metro Manila.

These include intense ground shaking, fire, the collapse of structures, and vehicular accidents.

Among the guests in program were Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology Director Renato Solidum, and NDRRMC Director Alex Pama.
