MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) - An explosion rocked the National Housing Authority (NHA) compound in Quezon City early morning Monday.
Authorities recovered the safety lever of an MK 2 hand grenade at the roof of the parking area.
An initial investigation showed that the grenade was thrown from the nearby Maharlika Street.
Several cars were damaged because of the incident.
The explosion occurred at around 5:30 a.m. but it was already around 10:30 a.m. when the incident was reported to the police.
NHA General Manager Chito Cruz said the blast may have been perpetrated by a disgruntled group of informal settlers.
Cruz said their decision to change the NHA’s security agency might be another possible motive.
He believes the perpetrators only meant to scare and not actually hurt anyone, since the grenade was hurled very early in the morning. - reports from Dennis Datu and Arnell Ozaeta, dzMM; and Gus Abelgas, ABS-CBN News
