Caloocan official ambushed

MANILA, Philippines – An official of Caloocan City was shot dead by unidentified suspects while onboard his vehicle along Narra St., Barangay Bagombong in Caloocan Thursday morning.

The victim was identified as 45-year-old Ruben Merrera.

Police said Merrera was on his way to his office when 4 armed men opened fire on his white Isuzu Crosswind (ZTW 388) at around 10 a.m.

Merrera, an environmental and sanitation officer, was with his wife, Dr. Jovita Merrera, 44, during the incident.

Merrera’s wife was also shot twice but survived the attack. She is now in stable condition.

Police said the suspects also ransacked the vehicle after the shooting.

They have yet to determine the motive behind the incident. -- Report from Gus Abelgas, ABS-CBN News
