Yellow rainfall alert for Quezon, Laguna, Batangas

MANILA - Heavy rains pounded Metro Manila and nearby provinces on Thursday afternoon, triggering floods in various areas.

State weather bureau PAGASA said a thunderstorm affected Orani, Samal and Abucay in Bataan, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Zambales, and parts of Cavite, Pampanga and Nueva Ecija.

PAGASA also raised a yellow rainfall alert for Quezon, Laguna, and Batangas at 3:45 p.m.

A yellow rainfall alert means there could be flooding in low-lying areas.

PAGASA is currently monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) off Eastern Samar.

In Metro Manila, several parts of EDSA -- Magallanes northbound and southbound, Orense northbound, and Estrella southbound -- were flooded due to the rains.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has been tweeting about flooded areas in various parts of the metropolis.

According to the MMDA, floods in Pasong Tamo in Makati reached 21 inches deep at around 3:30 p.m. while floods in Araneta Avenue reached 7 inches deep around 4 p.m.

Gutter-deep floods were also reported near SM Megamall.

Some ABS-CBN reporters and netizens took to social media to share photos of flooded areas in Metro Manila.
