MANILA, Philippines – A woman who had just fetched her son from school in Tondo, Manila was gunned down by an unidentified suspect Tuesday morning.

The victim, identified as Gina Castillo, was walking with her 5-year-old son when a man blocked their path and shot her multiple times.

Castillo died on the spot.

Her son was hit in the hand by a bullet and is recovering in a hospital.

Witnesses said the gunman was able to escape the scene.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the attack.

Castillo’s husband Alfred said his wife does not have any enemies.

“Walang kalaban ang misis ko, wala kaming kaaway. Hindi kami lumalabas ng bahay,” he said.

Last June 13, a woman who had just fetched her child was also gunned down in the area.

The homicide division of the Manila Police District is investigating if the incidents are linked.

“May pagkahawig eh. ‘Yung biktima ngayon may pagkahawig sa naunang babae,” said PO3 Amelito Lopez. -- Report from Jeff Canoy, ABS-CBN News
