MANILA, Philippines – At least five people, including three children, were rushed to a hospital after ammonia leaked from an ice plant in Quezon City.

Radio dzMM reported that an explosion first occurred inside the compound of an ice plant located along General Lim Street near Roosevelt Avenue around 10 a.m. Saturday.

“Nilalagyan namin ng packing sa may king valve kasi may napansin kaming konting leak. Ngayon habang nire-repair namin yun, biglang sumabog yun balbula (valve). Tumilapon talaga mismo yung balbula pataas,” said ice plant worker Roger Angeles.

A barangay official told dzMM that they already disseminated information to residents living near the ice plant to temporarily evacuate the area.
