QC road rage shooting leaves boy, driver hurt

MANILA, Philippines – A tricycle driver and a boy were shot during a traffic altercation in Quezon City Wednesday morning.

The victims were tricycle driver Marlon Cabunyag and his passenger, 12-year-old Kyle Cuntapay.

Witnesses said the unidentified suspect alighted his vehicle and shot Cabunyag at close range. The suspect fired another shot, this time hitting Cuntapay, who was on his way to school.

The shooting occurred at the corner of Kamias Road and K-H Street in Barangay West Kamias.

A witness said the suspect fled towards EDSA. He said the suspect, who was driving a white van with plate number UTA 657, was accompanied by several men.

A source of radio dzMM said the van was a 1997 model of a Mitsubishi L300 Versa. The vehicle was registered to a resident of Barangay Pembo, Makati City.

Cabunyag and Cuntapay were rushed to East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

Cabunyag, also a tanod (watchman) at Barangay Silangan, sustained a gunshot wound to his side.

Cuntapay, on the other hand, was shot on the foot.

Police have launched an operation to capture the suspect.

As of posting, Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) personnel were still conducting investigation at the crime scene. – report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
