MANILA, Philippines - A 17-year old student of De La Salle University committed suicide due to death threats made by his own fraternity mates.

Richard Raymundo on Saturday, was found dead at his home in Sucat Paranaque. He tied his neck with a plastic rope before shooting himself with a .45 caliber gun owned by his father.

Based on the initial investigation of the Philippine National Police, Raymundo received several threatening text messages from his fraternity mates. One message warned him he will be killed if he does not own up to an alleged rape of a female frat member.

Rolando Raymundo, the father of Richard his family does not believe that Richard can commit such a heinous crime.

Instead, he blamed the fraternity, and said nothing good could come out of joining school fraternities.

Richard's body was cremated on Sunday.

In the meantime, the De La Salle University said it does not condone such actions from fraternities.

The police are now trying to identify who sent the text messages, saying those who sent the threatening messages could have used another SIM card.
