MANILA – Three suspected car thieves were arrested in Antipolo City on Wednesday evening.

Elements from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Antipolo Police set up an entrapment operation against three thieves believed to be in possession of a stolen car.

An undercover policeman met the suspects, identified as Joseph Colalco, Marcial Tagal, and Ronald Rocha, at a gasoline station along Marcos Highway to buy the stolen car at P450,000.

However, the suspects exchanged fire with the police after they learned that they were being set up.

Rocha was injured in the gunfight, while Colalco and Tagal are now under police custody.

Police discovered a .38-caliber pistol and a grenade inside the car, which was also hit by bullets at the height of the gunfight.

Police are now tracing the owner of the stolen car.
