MANILA, Philippines – Sixteen people were hurt when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) rammed a restaurant in Pasig City on Friday evening.
Cynthia Escauso, 46, of Sampaloc, Manila is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property and multiple physical injuries.
Escauso was driving a Mitsubishi Montero (TXI 567) when she allegedly lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle along Metrowalk.
The vehicle jumped the curb and hit bystanders and customers who were inside a restaurant.
“Nakita ko nasa right side siya tapos humahataw from the parking kumanan ng ganon tapos parang bumubusina na biglang pag right turn ng ganon umakyat na siya sa bangketa tapos dirediretso dito,” said Erik Lagera, whose friend was among those hurt.
Meanwhile, Marvin Barracas’ two friends were also injured in the accident.
“Ang lakas po nung impact dito. Lahat po ng tao napasigaw, paglingon namin nawala ‘yung kasama naming dalawa. Nagulat kami tapos nagsisigaw na po kami,” he said.
The victims believe Escauso was drunk when the accident happened. She was also rushed to a hospital.
“Dinumog po siya ng mga tao. Medyo matanda na po siya may kaliitan tapos lasing po talaga siya,” said Barracas. -- Reports from Bettina Magsaysay, ABS-CBN News; dzMM
