MANILA, Philippines – Authorities have issued a warning to truck drivers plying Road 10 in Manila on a new modus operandi by robbers.

Police said the robbers, dubbed as “jumper boys,” target cargo trucks carrying produce and other goods from provinces.

The suspects, mostly teenagers, jump on the truck when it is stalled due to traffic and jump off immediately after stealing whatever the truck is carrying.

“Ang bibilis niyan. Nanakawan na kami ng tool box, kable, kahit gamit ko sa loob,” said truck driver Gerardo Lavino.

Police admit arresting the suspects has been difficult because aside from being minors, they quickly escape towards a squatter’s area near the road.

Last Wednesday, a man identified as Henry Andales was killed after a trailer truck ran over him in Tondo.

His common-law wife admitted that Andales steals from trucks for a living. -- Report from Chiara Zambrano, ABS-CBN News
