MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – The demolition of several homes in Barangay Bagong Pagasa, North EDSA, Quezon City was suspended Wednesday.

The demolition operation in Sitio San Roque was suspended by the Quezon City Task Force on Control and Prevention of Illegal Structures and Squatters after barangay officials presented a recommendation letter from Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo and Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, ordering the postponement of the demolition.

According to task force chief Jack Jacutin, the homes were initially ordered demolished because it occupied almost 24 meters of North EDSA.

Around 12 homes have already been demolished before the operation was suspended.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Dir. Chief Supt. Mario Dela Vega will meet with the demolition team to discuss Robredo's directive.

Authorities said the affected families will be relocated to a housing project in Rodriguez, Rizal. -- Report from Robert Mano, dzMM
