Gov't prepared for rainy season, Palace says
MANILA - The national government is prepared for the rainy season this year, a Palace official said Wednesday.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said they will coordinate with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for an update on the relocation of informal settlers in danger zones in Metro Manila.
He said necessary infrastructure have been put in place to deal with floods.
"We have prepared for this. We made sure that informal settlers will be taken out of harm's way," he said.
"And we are also making sure that [floodwaters] will go down as fast as possible because of the constructions that we've made to ensure floods will not stay there --- or should recede as fast as possible," he added.
"If you recall, there were extensive diggings in somewhere in España. DPWH created a catchment, kumbaga malalim iyong hinukay dito sa may bandang Blumentritt sa España to ensure -- pagdating sa baha dito sa España -- bababa kaagad iyong baha," he said.
"MMDA is also in charge of making sure that our pumping stations are going to function properly come the rainy season. Plus, iyong ating mga NDRRMC. DSWD, pagdating naman sa paghahanda sa mga bagyo, were able to pre-position the goods," Lacierda said.
