Alleged Abu Sayyaf bagman nabbed in Paranaque

MANILA - A top official of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was arrested by police authorities in Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City on Wednesday morning.

Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) spokesperson Chief Insp. Beth Jasmin identified the suspect as ASG commander Khair Mundos.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas has confirmed the news. "Dati nang na-arrest yan, itinalakas lang ng mga kasama niya," he said.

Mundos allegedly receives money from Al Qaeda to finance the Abu Sayyaf's terrorist activities.

Police said Mundos escaped from a jail in Kidapawan, Cotabato in 2007.

He is facing charges of multiple murder and frustrated murder.
