6 Manila cops charged with rape, extortion
MANILA -- Six police officers from the Manila Police District were charged Thursday after they allegedly solicited sex and asked for money from an inmate's wife.
Last May, a woman approached Senior Police Officer 4 Anthony Carpio to ask for help, as other police personnel were allegedly extorting money for the freedom of her husband, who was accused of drug trafficking.
Carpio allegedly asked for sex from the woman, who promptly alerted the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
The CIDG filed a rape case against Carpio.
Carpio and 5 other officers were also charged with robbery, extortion, violation of domicile, unlawful arrest, arbitrary detention, and violation of the Anti-graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
The 5 other officers were identified as SPO3 Emanuel Bautista, SPO1 Victor Amisola, PO1 Jaycee John Galutera, PO1 Joseph Casimiro, and PO1 Teodorico Arias.
