MANILA – A Quezon City policeman was shot dead during a surveillance operation in Barangay Molino III, Bacoor, Cavite before dawn on Monday.

Policemen and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agents were conducting a surveillance operation on suspected drug personalities when about 10 men on board a Toyota HiAce and two motorcycles fired shots at them, according to Supt. Rommel Estolano, chief of Bacoor Police.

SPO3 Alejandro Ame died on the spot while PO1 Leonard Sadayaturo and civilian informant Alvic Martin were wounded. Martin is in critical condition and is now at a hospital in Metro Manila.

CCTV footage showed the suspects arriving at the scene at around 4 a.m. before staging the attack against the victims, who were on board a Toyota Innova.

The footage also showed one of the suspects falling down after being shot by the policemen. He, however, was taken by his cohort as they fled.

An investigation has been launched to determine how the suspects learned of the arrival of the anti-illegal drugs police. – report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
