MANILA - An assistant supervisor of the Traffic Section of the Manila Toll Expressway System was killed in an ambush in Alabang, Muntinlupa, police said.

Muntinlupa Police Chief Sr. Supt. Allan Nobleza said 42-year-old Rodelio Umali, a resident of Tondo, Manila, died on the spot.

Investigation showed that Umali, who was on board his motorcycle, was chased by two armed men also on board a motorcycle.

The suspects caught up with Umali along Commerce Avenue corner East Asia Drive, where he was shot multiple times at close range.

He sustained gunshot wounds in the head and other parts of his body.

Recovered from the crime scene were five empty bullet slugs from a .45-caliber pistol.

Police said they are investigating if the killing was work-related, noting that Umali had been promoted just recently.

They will look at the footage of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera installed at the nearby fast food chain to know if it was able to capture the incident. -- Report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
