MANILA, Philippines – Two people were killed during a routine street clearing operation by the Antipolo Police and Public Order and Safety Department along Manuel L. Quezon St. Thursday morning.

Police said a street vendor, identified as 45-year-old Serad Makaayong, gunned down public order officer Marcelo Gamboa at around 10:15 a.m.

Makaayong, who reportedly opposed the daily clearing operation of authorities along the busy street, shot the 42-year-old Gamboa 3 times with a .45 caliber pistol.

Police said Makaayong attempted to escape but was shot dead by responding policemen in a gunfight.

Police aide Antonio Jeta-Jobe was also hurt in the encounter. -- Report from Gus Abelgas, ABS-CBN News
