MANILA - A 29-year-old man has been arrested by Antipolo City police for killing more than 10 cats in the city.

The suspect, identified as Marvin Reyes, killed the cats without reason, according to Santa Cruz Barangay Captain Ramuel Miqui.

Miqui told Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo (BMPM) that police arrested Reyes two days later and that the suspect admitted to the crime.

Reyes was charged on May 23 for violating the Animal Welfare Act, malicious mischief, and trespassing, Senior Police Office 1 Jojo Angeles said.

The case was brought to the attention of BMPM by Bayan Patroller Lheng Virtucio Cruz, who saw photos of the slain cats posted on the "League of Volunteers Everywhere's" Facebook page.

The suspect's sister, Nelma Reyes, told BMPM that her brother was once jailed for violent behavior.

She said Marvin sometimes yells expletives and throws objects at neighbors and his siblings.

She added that Marvin was also once a drug-dependent. She fears that her brother has a mental illness but they haven't sought medical help for him.

Their mother is an overseas Filipino worker while their father is detained in the Antipolo jail.
