Erap denies he will run for higher post in 2016
MANILA - Former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada denied he will run again for a higher post in 2016.
He said the last position he will hold is as mayor. He said he would rather go back to private life.
He said Vice Mayor Isko Moreno is preparing to replace him in 2016.
There were reports Estrada would take up the cudgels for son Senator Jinggoy Estrada’s bid for a higher post after the latter got embroiled in the pork barrel scam.
The younger Estrada has been indicted by the Ombudsman but he has filed a motion for reconsideration.
Other members of the Estrada family have also been linked to the corruption scandal, including the former president's wife, Loi Ejercito.
His son with San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez, Senator JV Ejercito, was also included on Janet Napoles’ list, but his name was stricken off due to an encoder's error. – from a report by Zhander Cayabyab, dzMM
