MANILA - A driver is accused of taking P1.6 million in cash and jewelry from his employer, former Press Undersecretary Ike Gutierrez.

Gutierrez went to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to file a complaint against his driver, Ronald Esmedia.

According to Gutierrez, his driver was supposed to bring the money and jewelry to his house, but the latter did not show up.

Gutierrez said he was supposed to use the money to pay for the treatment of some kidney transplant patients who he says are his beneficiaries.

Based on investigation by NBI, Esmedia has been working for Gutierrez for 4 years.

It was the first time Gutierrez entrusted more than a million pesos to his driver.

Esmedia reportedly has a standing warrant of arrest for illegal drugs. -- report from Ricky Velasco, DZMM
