MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – A woman died and 16 others were injured when a bus rammed into a sister bus at Paco, Manila Monday morning.
The lone fatality was identified as Erlinda Magallanes.
Magallanes was a passenger of the bus driven by Arnel Ampinoque, whose leg got stuck between his seat and steering wheel after his bus rammed into another along Paz Guanzon Street at around 9 a.m.
It took rescuers about 20 minutes to move Ampinoque.
Initial police reports said Ampinqoue's Pandacan Transport bus (NVC 585) crashed into another Pandacan Transport bus (TYV 527), which was then waiting for passengers.
Witnesses said Ampinoque’s bus was speeding and was in a wayward motion.
At least 16 passengers inside Ampinoque's bus were injured. They included Donna Lualhati, Floreta Ybanez and Sally Espinosa.
Ampinoque claimed his bus’ brakes failed.
He is facing a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to property. – reports from Noel Alamar, dzMM; and Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
