10 inmates bolt Mandaluyong jail
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Ten inmates escaped from the Mandaluyong Police Station on Tuesday noon but one of them surrendered around midnight Wednesday, police said.
Senior Superintendent Armando Bolalin, chief of Mandaluyong Police, said one of the inmates sawed through the bars of the jail and escaped with the other detainees at around 12 p.m.
The ten inmates who escaped from the jail were identified as:
- Melgar Quinones
- Rommel M. Abarca
- Reynaldo M. Eligo
- Henry S. Andrade
- Valentino L. Gianan
- Rolando C. Palmenco
- Gabriel Gonzales
- Mark S. Aguja
- Joel S. Capuli
- Mark Louie
Police said illegal drug suspects Eligo, Palmenco and Capuli planned the jailbreak and enticed fellow inmates to escape.
Gianan surrendered to the police around midnight. He said he went to his aunt's house in Manila before heading to his house in Mandaluyong.
He said he was convinced by his younger brother Ramil to surrender to the police.
Meanwhile, the police have formed three tracking teams to search for the fugitives.
An investigation has also been launched to determine who should be held liable for the jailbreak. -- reports from Henry Atuelan and Johnson Manabat, dzMM; and Jerome Lantin, ABS-CBN News
