3 hurt in separate hit-and-run incidents in Metro Manila
MANILA – Three people were badly injured after figuring in separate hit-and-run incidents in Metro Manila before dawn on Wednesday.
Quezon City Hall employee Leodegario Rafael was wounded after a taxi hit him along Kamias Road in Barangay Pinyahan past 12 a.m.
Witnesses said Rafael was about to cross the road when the taxi hit him. Rafael was dragged for about 30 meters after being hit by the taxi.
Taxi driver Marianeto Dulom said he was not able to hit the brakes because Rafael suddenly appeared in front of his taxi.
"Nabigla ako. Hindi ko rin nakita kasi madilim dito tapos nakaitim pa siya,'' Dulom said.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) rescuers said Rafael sustained a fracture on his foot.
"Twisted ang paa niya tapos may laceration sa noo... Nakainom ata eh,'' said MMDA rescue personnel Juvy Villar.
In Manila, a woman sustained fractures on her arm and leg after she was hit by a car while crossing Roxas Boulevard.
Rolly Hernandez said he was driving his van when the car in front of him hit the woman. Due to the impact of the crash, the woman was thrown away into the middle of the road and even hit Hernandez's van.
Police investigators are now trying to match the plate number of the car involved in the crash and its description given by witnesses.
Meanwhile, motorcycle rider Jun Rey Peralta was injured after being hit by a car while he was crossing the intersection of Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas at around 3 a.m.
"Nakita ko yung nakamotor tumatawid. Iyung kotse mabilis ang takbo kaya nag-pang-abot sila.. Tuloy tuloy iyung kotse hindi huminto,'' said witness Daniel Nario.
Police investigators are now reviewing footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the area in order to identify the car that hit the victim. – reports from Jerome Lantin, Kori Quintos and Carolyn Bonquin, ABS-CBN News
