MANILA, Philippines – Reelectionist Lani Cayetano, the wife of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, was proclaimed as mayor by the Taguig board of canvassers early Wednesday.
Cayetano garnered 122,824 votes while her rival, Rica Tinga, only received 74,009 votes.
Cayetano’s runningmate, Ricardo Cruz, was also provisionally proclaimed as vice mayor.
Her brother-in-law Lino Cayetano, meanwhile, won as Taguig's 2nd district representative.
The political rivalry between the Cayetanos and the Tingas heated up during the campaign, prompting the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to declare Taguig as an area of immediate concern days before the polls.
