24 hurt as bus slams into wall in Makati

MANILA, Philippines - Twenty-four people were injured when a passenger bus slammed into a concrete wall along EDSA in the vicinity of Barangay Bangkal in Makati City on Saturday morning.

Initial investigation disclosed that the Newman Gold Liner Bus with plate number TXR 847 allegedly lost its brakes.

The bus driver, Manuel Mabago, fled the scene after the accident.

Witnesses said the bus was speeding while traveling down the Magallanes flyover before it crashed into a wall of a merchandizing company.

Employees of a merchandising firm were among the victims, reports said.

Police Officer 2 Cesar Bueno of the Makati City Traffic Police Office said 3 of those injured were brought to the San Juan de Dios Hospital and 21 to the Pasay City General Hospital.

The bus company has promised to shoulder all the medical expenses of the victims. Report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
