MANILA, Philippines – Manila Vice-Mayor Isko Moreno on Tuesday denied abandoning Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim when he switched to the political party of former president Joseph Estrada.
Moreno said he and Lim were never together because they belonged to different political parties.
He said Lim himself had switched political parties.
"There is no such thing as iniwan.....because technically speaking, we were never together. It's just that at that time wala silang vice-mayor, wala kaming mayor so nagkaroon ng local coalition,” he told ANC’s Headstart.
"Nanalo kami, pinalad kami pareho. For the last 5 years wala naman kayo naririnig sa Maynila. Even though magkaiba kami ng partido, we continued to support the leadership, as we promised,” he added.
Moreno agreed with former President Joseph Estrada that Manila has fallen behind other cities. He vowed to support Lim until his last day in office.
He also said he is willing to be the running-mate of Estrada in Manila if his party wishes it.
Moreno, who is a former actor, said he originally wanted to be a congressman but decided to run for vice-mayor instead upon the advice of his previous party.
