MANILA, Philippines - Journalist Erwin Tulfo on Tuesday apologized to the public for threats he and his 2 brothers made on air against celebrity couple Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto.

Tulfo said on his show on TV5's AksyonTV that their outburst was caused by a sudden rush of emotions over the alleged mauling of their older brother, columnist Mon Tulfo, by Santiago's group last Sunday.

He said their mother disapproved of the statements they made in public against Santiago and Barretto.

He said officials of the broadcast company where they work did not approve of the threats the Tulfo brothers made on their show.

'Tulfos' revenge'

Erwin Tulfo said on their T3 show on TV5 on Monday that Santiago should expect he and his brothers to go after him. "Abangan mo ang bwelta ng Tulfo brothers," he said.

He also said that Santiago's wife, Claudine, will also feel the Tulfos' wrath.

Ipagdasal mo na lamang huwag tayong magkrus ng landas," he said.

His brother Raffy also hurled invectives at Santiago and said the actor should hope they they won't meet in public.

"Huwag lang sana tayong magpang-abot sa mall," he said.

"Idasal mo, hijo de P.I. ka.

Ben Tulfo, meanwhile, had challenged Santiago and his companions to a free-for-all.

Tandaan mo ito," he said.

Ramon scolds brothers

Their brother, Ramon, who is at the center of the incident at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Sunday, told ABS-CBN's "Umagang Kay Ganda" on Tuesday that his brothers' reactions are uncalled for.

"Alam mo, maling-mali sila doon. Pinagalitan ko sila, sabi ko bakit naman ganoon?" he said.

"Alam mo ‘yung bugso lang ng damdamin, they realized their mistakes. Unang una ‘yung public opinion ay nasa atin na and pangalawa ‘yung revenge is the lowest form of retaliation, yun ang sabi ko.'

MTRCB probe

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has stepped into the controversy.

MTRCB board member Atty. Eugenio "Toto" Villareal said the MTRCB was "shocked" that the Tulfo brothers threatened and cursed the celebrity couple live on their show.

He said the MTRCB's legal department will conduct an investigation and if it is proven that the Tulfos violated the board's guidelines, the show could face either suspension or cancellation.

"Acting on numerous complaints from the general public and based on the Board's own monitoring, the Office of the MTRCB Legal Counsel has found probable cause to charge the television program 'T3 KAPATID SAGOT KITA,' aired over TV5, for violation of Section 3(c), P.D. 1986 for airing scenes and utterances that are indecent and contrary to law, or with a dangerous tendency to encourage the commission of violence, or of a wrong or crime , during its 07 May 2012 episode," the MTRCB said on Tuesday

The board has scheduled the case for hearing on May 10.

The MTRCB also urged the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) to look into the case "for appropriate action with respect to the television personalities involved."
