MANILA – A man was stabbed dead while his son was hurt by a mentally challenged suspect who managed to escape after the incident in Tondo, reports said.

Victim Ricardo Araon was stabbed four times by the suspect identified only as "Billy". He was declared dead on arrival at the Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital.

His son, Ronnel, who was taking a bath outside, was also stabbed in the shoulder and ear. He is now being treated at the Tondo General Hospital.

The mother of the suspect, who requested not to be named, admitted that her son is mentally sick and is undergoing medication.

She said Billy does not exhibit signs of violence, and may have been provoked by the victims and retaliated.

"Hindi ko nga alam kung pano nya nagawa yun e. Siguro nagdilim na ang paningin nya," she said.

"Akala ko nagpapambuno lang yun pala nasaksak nya na," the suspect’s aunt, meanwhile, said.

After the incident, the suspect fled the scene with the weapon. He was shirtless and not wearing any slippers, witnesses said.

Some residents told authorities they saw the suspect in Roa 10 area but barangay officials were unable to locate him.

Investigation is still ongoing for the arrest of the suspect, police said. - From a report by Francis Faulve, ABS-CBN News
