MANILA, Philippines – A brief hailstorm in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City surprised residents on Friday.
The residents said hailstones the size of corn kernels fell on their homes at around 3 p.m. and lasted for around 10 minutes.
“Natakot kami kasi biglang bumagsak sa bubong,” said Hilda Fortuna, one of the residents.
While the adults expressed alarm over the occurrence, the children of Barangay Holy Spirit took to the streets and played with the small pieces of ice.
The residents said they also experienced a hailstorm last year.
State weather PAGASA, meanwhile, said Friday’s hailstorm occurred due to severe thunderstorms, which are prevalent during the months of March, April and May.
-- Reports from Doland Castro and Bettina Magsaysay, ABS-CBN News
