MANILA, Philippines – Several personalities have allegedly sent feelers to Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, expressing their interest to run alongside him in the 2013 mayoral elections.
Those interested to be Lim’s runningmates in next year’s polls include a lawmaker, two actors, a mayoral timber, a business magnate and several councilors, according to sources close to the mayor.
Lim’s chief of staff and media bureau director Ric de Guzman said that although aspiring vice mayors have expressed interest in running alongside Lim, the mayor would rather focus on efforts to improve the city of Manila through social projects.
De Guzman said Lim would rather not talk about the forthcoming elections and concentrate on his tasks as incumbent mayor.
Meanwhile, former President Joseph Estrada told ANC last week that he is eyeing incumbent Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno as his runningmate if ever he decides to run against Lim in 2013.
Estrada, however, noted that he will not run for mayor if a younger and more capable candidate surfaces.
Moreno, for his part, earlier denied that he is joining Estrada as the latter’s runningmate.
The vice mayor said he is still keeping his options open.
