200 families lose homes in QC fire
MANILA -- An estimated 200 families lost their homes after fire razed around 60 homes in Barangay Matandang Balara in Quezon City early morning on Saturday.
Initial investigation showed that the fire started at the second floor of the house of a certain Esperanze Pael in Amadores Street, Luzon Avenue past 4 a.m.
The blaze reached the fourth alarm before it was declared out two hours later.
Fire quickly spread in the area since the houses were made of light materials. The narrow street leading to the area also hampered firefighting efforts.
One person was wounded in the incident after being accidentally electrocuted.
Authorities suspect an unattended candle in Pael's house caused the fire.
Residents are now temporarily seeking shelter at the covered court in the barangay.
They will also likely spend their Christmas there, authorities said. -- Reports from Kori Quintos, ABS-CBN News; Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
