MANILA – A toddler was injured in an escalator accident inside Ayala-owned Market! Market! mall in Taguig City on Friday.

The mall administration confirmed to Radio dzMM that a 1-year-old boy was rushed to St. Luke's Medical Center in Global City after his fingers got caught in the escalator.

Mall employees told dzMM that the crying boy and his father's call for help caught the attention of mall goers. The boy was going down to the ground floor from the second floor when the accident occurred.

A mall security guard immediately turned the escalator off and assisted the boy.

Mall medical officers immediately brought the toddler to the hospital.

Mall officials said this was the first time that someone got injured while using the mall's escalator.

This is not the first time that a child got involved in an escalator accident inside a mall.

In February this year, a 3-year boy died while playing at an escalator in 999 Mall in Binondo.

In 2012, a boy was also injured after his hands got stuck in an escalator in Puregold Mall in Caloocan.  – report from Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
