MANILA, Philippines – A two-year old child died in a fire in Arellano Street corner Zobel Roxas Street in Palanan, Makati City past 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

The victim was identified as Leilzei Joy Boyco.

According to Sr. Inspector Tito Purgatorio, chief of Investigation-Intelligence Division of the Makati Fire Department, the child’s body was found near the door of their home.

The victim’s father, Dariel Boyco, 21, said he brought his daughter to their neighbor’s house. But while the rest of the family was putting out the fire and salvaging their things, the two-year old returned to their house.

Initial investigations showed that the fire started in the second floor of the Boyco family’s home due to an over-heated exhaust fan around 2:10 a.m.

After only 10 minutes, the fire was raised to the fifth alarm. The fire was declared out at around 2:45 a.m. More than 45 firetrucks responded to the blaze.

An estimated 35 houses were razed by the fire, affecting 50 families.

Because the fire occurred in the boundary of Makati, Manila and Pasay, some houses near a creek in Pasay City were also affected.

The victims are still waiting for help from the local government. – Report from DZMM
