150 families lose homes in Agham Road fire

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – At least 150 families lost their homes after a fire hit an informal settlement along Agham Road in Quezon City Friday afternoon.

The fire started at around 1:40 p.m. and reached Task Force Alpha. About 60 houses, made mostly of light materials, were destroyed in the fire.

The fire was declared under control at 2:50 p.m. and was put out after an hour by the Quezon City Fire Department.

Kim Mauro, 17, was the only person reported injured in the blaze. He sustained 2nd degree burns after being doused with cooking oil while running away.

Quezon City Fire Marshal Bobby Baruelo said the fire started at the house of a certain Marcus Montinola, but its cause has yet to be determined.

Baruelo said the fire damaged an estimated P3 million worth of property.

On Thursday afternoon, a fire incident also occurred in Barangay Damayan where 2 people died.  – report from Arnel Ozaeta, dzMM
