MANILA - Eighteen people, mostly jeepney drivers, were arrested Monday when police swooped down on an alleged drug den in Aurora Boulevard in Cubao, Quezon City.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) caught the suspects amid a pot session inside their jeepneys and trucks at a pay parking lot.
Recovered from them were some 30 sachets of suspected shabu and various drug paraphernalia.
Sr. Supt. Jonathan Alabang, QCPD deputy director for administration, said the parking lot served as a drug den where narcotics can be bought and used.
Rey Simbo, who supervised the parking space, allegedly encouraged the suspects to use drugs in the area. He was among those arrested.
QCPD Anti-Illegal Drugs chief Insp. Enrico Figueroa added: "Ang modus nila dito na gagarahe at nagda-drugs kaya pala ang bibilis nila magmaneho."
Police earlier received complaints about the alleged drug den from concerned residents.
A suspect caught in a recent buy-bust operation also confirmed the location of the parking lot to authorities.
Several suspects also admitted using drugs which may be bought there for only P100.
The QCPD will file complaints against the suspects before the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
From January to March 2016, a total of 408 people were arrested in QCPD anti-narcotics operations. These also yielded over P56 million worth of shabu. -- With reports from Doland Castro, ABS-CBN News; Dennis Datu, dzMM
