MANILA – Around 150 families have lost their homes in a fire in Barangay Tandang Sora in Quezon City on Thursday, reports said.

The fire which razed houses in Banlat Road, Tandang Sora reached 4th alarm, firefighters said. Damage was estimated at P500,000.

The houses, authorities said, were made of light materials, making the blaze spread easily.

Supt. Jesus Fernandez, City Fire Marshall in Quezon City, said the fire may have started from an unattended candle or short circuit at the residence of the Belarminos.

"Electrical o kandila ang pinagmulan kasi walang kuryente… nahirapan tayo pumasok," he said.

But Clarita Belarmino denied that the fire originated from their house, saying she saw the fire start outside of their home.

"Sa labas yun kasi nakita ko pa yung wire na nasusunog sa labas... hindi yun kandila," she said. - From a report by Kori Quintos, ABS-CBN News
