MANILA -- The driver of a Makati City councilor has accused his boss of beating him up.

Antonio Poyatos on Wednesday filed complaints of physical injuries and grave threat against Makati Councilor Nemesio "King" Yabut Jr.

According to Poyatos, Yabut beat him up and cussed at him after he failed to immediately answer a phone call from the councilor, who was asking to be picked up from a bar along Jupiter Street in Makati.

As soon as Yabut got in the car, Poyatos alleged that his boss started cussing and hitting him.

He added that Yabut, who was drunk at that time, also threatened to shoot him.

"'Gusto mo barilin na lang kita?'" he quoted the councilor as saying.

He said he refused to fight his boss due to fear that he would be shot.

But upon arriving home, Poyatos, who had been working as Yabut's driver for 4 years, quickly offered his resignation.

"Natakot ako eh. Konsehal siya ng Makati, ordinaryo lang akong tao. Siyempre sunod na lang ako. Tapos habang nagda-drive ako, minumura niya pa rin ako. Maraming beses niya akong pinagsusuntok dito sa batok at sa mukha... Yung pustiso ko nabasag so habang nagda-drive ako, dumudugo itong nguso ko," he told reporters on Wednesday.

Yabut, meanwile, has yet to comment on Poyatos' allegation. -- Reports from Jay Ruiz, ABS-CBN News; Dennis Datu, dzMM
