MANILA - SM Supermalls and the Mathematics Trainers Guild Philippines (MTG) have penned a new deal to hold another nationwide Sudoku tournament and other math-related competitions in the country.
The 9th Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge (PSSC) and the 2014 DepEd-MTG-SM-SHARP Math Trail and Problem Solving Competition will be held on October and September, respectively.
"We are very grateful to SM Supermalls for its unwavering support to the Philippine Sudoku and math trail competitions," said MTG President Simon Chua.
Present at the signing of the new deal announced Tuesday were DSM Supermalls vice president for marketing and communications Millie Dizon, MTG business manager Isidro Aguilar, MTG board of directors member Archieval Rodriguez and adviser Myrna Agtarap.
According to Dizon, the 9th PSSC regional eliminations will be held on October 18 at SM Supermalls in Cagayan de Oro, Cavite, Laguna, Baguio, Cebu, Pampanga, Iloilo, Lucena, Baliwag, Bacolod, Lipa, Rosales, Tarlac, Davao, Naga, Gen. Santos, Olongapo and Marikina.
The finals will be held on January 31, 2015 at SM North EDSA.
The math trail and problem-solving competitions elimination rounds, on the other hand, are set on September 20 at SM San Lazaro and SM Paranaque, with the finals set on November 15 at SM City North EDSA, as well.
For the 2013 edition of the PSSC, 19 year-old Alvin Ian Chan of the Ateneo de Manila University won the Grandmaster Division for college students and professionals, while Jonathan Conrad Yu won the Sudoku Whiz Kid category.
Both, according to Dizon, will represent the country in upcoming international Sudoku tournaments in London, Bangkok, Thailand and Beijing.
