MANILA – A number of people have started going home to the provinces, amid the expected heavy traffic during Holy Week due to the road reblocking scheduled by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
The road reblocking, according to the MMDA, will commence this weekend, starting with four roads at the southbound lane of EDSA including Cubao, Taft, Pasay Road and Urdaneta. There will also be reblocking at the northbound lane before JP Rizal in Makati.
Most parts of EDSA will undergo road works starting Holy Tuesday, with 33 areas of the southbound lane to be repaired until Good Friday, and 38 sections at the northbound lane by Easter Sunday, MMDA said.
"Agahan ang labas ng Maynila. Martes ng umaga o Lunes ng gabi. Tapos yung uwi, Lunes ng umaga," Atty. Francis Tolentino, MMDA chairman, said.
At the NLEX and SLEX, meanwhile, heavy traffic is expected from afternoon of Holy Wednesday and morning of Maundy Thursday, and afternoon of Black Saturday and evening of Easter Sunday.
Personnel will be deployed at the NLEX along Balintawak, Mindanao Avenue, Bocaue and Dau in Mabalacat, Pampanga as well as in Tarlac and Tipo exits at the SCTEX.
Ambulant tellers will be added at the Skyway, SLEX and Star Tollway, while counterflow measures will be implemented at Calamba. - From a report by Zen Hernandez, ABS-CBN News
