MANILA -- The Optical Media Board (OMB) confiscated P10 million worth of pirated DVDs in Elizondo Street, Quiapo, Manila on Sunday afternoon.

OMB chairman Ronnie Ricketts said they decided to conduct a raid in the area on a weekend, contrary to what they usually do.

"Surprise [inspection] lang 'to on a Sunday. Nag-operate po tayo kasi nai-complain kasi na sa target na building. Small team lang kami ngayon, positive naman 'yung resulta," he said.

The group, together with operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), recovered 50 sacks of illegal products from the raid.

Ricketts added that selling of pirated DVDs is still rampant in Quiapo, despite efforts to stop this illegal operation.

He said he has already coordinated with Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and talked to him about the possibility of providing alternative livelihood activities to those involved in selling pirated DVDs to encourage them to stop.

The group failed to arrest anyone as the sellers immediately fled the scene. -- report from Junry Hidalgo, DZMM
