MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday announced that the number coding scheme will be suspended during the Holy Week.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said number coding will be suspended beginning April 2 (Monday) until April 9 (Monday).

April 9, Araw ng Kagitingan, is a regular holiday.

Tolentino said the suspension of the scheme was in anticipation of the influx of motorists during the Lenten break.

He also advised motorists to  avoid EDSA during Holy Wednesday (April 4) and Holy Thursday (April 5), and use the so-called Mabuhay lanes instead to avoid heavy traffic.
