MANILA -- A 20-year-old college student was stabbed dead in Sampaloc, Manila, police said.

Jacinto Noel Genuino, an Electronic Communications Engineering student from Far Eastern University (FEU), was walking together with a friend along Don Quijote corner España Boulevard when they bumped into two men identified as Greg Dan Balais and Eric Rivera.

Manila Police said Balais, 21, is a former student of FEU while Rivera, 20, is a student of University of Santo Tomas (UST).

Authorities said after bumping into each other, the students suddenly engaged in a brawl over still unknown reasons.

Balais then stabbed Genuino in his rib cage and back, police said.

Genuino was rushed to the UST Hospital, but eventually died.

The suspects were immediately arrested by the police. They will undergo inquest proceedings at the Manila Prosecutor's Office.

Recovered from the crime scene were a .22-caliber pistol without a serial number and three bullets. -- Report from Zandro Ochona, dzMM
