The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has arrested a suspected Chinese Triad chemist who led anti-narcotics operatives to a shabu laboratory in Sta. Cruz, Manila, Saturday morning.
The PDEA said that Chinese national Victor Chiu, who was arrested last March 4, led its operatives to a small shabu laboratory along T. Alonzo Street, Sta. Cruz..
Chiu is a chemist working for the Tiger Group of the Chinese Triad, said PDEA.
Several teams raided the makeshift laboratory around 9:30 a.m. and found P46-million worth of illegal drugs.
The PDEA said its operatives also found several packs of “camote” crackers, which were used to disguise the illegal drug operations.
Residents told ABS-CBN News they were not aware of the shabu laboratory, which was assembled in an apartment. They said they thought the people renting the apartment were only making crackers.
Remy Bingao, one of the residents, said most of the occupants of the apartment are Chinese-speaking.
PDEA Director General Dionisio Santiago said the shabu laboratory was financed by a certain Peter Chou, who eluded arrest.
Follow-up operations have been launched for the arrest of the Chinese national. -- report from Israel Malasa, ABS-CBN News
